Best laid plans

Went to a wedding this weekend in the Shenandoah Mountains of Virginia. The planned wedding spot was the pinnacle of a dam overlooking a lake in the valley. I honestly could not imagine a more perfect or beautiful vista. It seems God likes to laugh at our plans and as life would have it, Saturday was a washout. The wedding ceremony was moved to an alternate location (though still outside!). But this is still a special place.

Who let the dogs out?

We spent a fabulous weekend in PA recently. First outside of Erie followed by a day in Pittsburgh. We were lucky enough to spend an evening at the Arneman’s farm. There was everything that could possibly make an evening great… adventure, beer, friends, fishing, and a fire. These frankfurters were consumed around an hour after eating a steak.

Prince of the Door

Tonight, we came home to see this visitor “hanging out” on our front door.

Red, red wine

I’ve read several research papers recently about the evidence of red wine leading to numerous health benefits. This special juice has demonstrated benefits with regards to heart disease, cancers, inflammation, and even your… love life.

Scientists are working on a way to deliver resveratrol, the supposed beneficial substance in wine, to us in pill form. Silly scientists.

In honor of this, here’s a trifecta of wine-related photos from the wine country of CA.

Drivel and Flower Power

Sorry for the blogging lull. Lots of life has been happening over the past few weeks. I was reminded several times recently that people actually do read my blog which motivated me to post something. I heard someone say that the web exists on the cutting edge and in the leadership structure of web communities leaders are chosen based on the value that they add. Once you cease to add value, you immediately lose influence. I figure that at this point even my wife has stopped reading, so why bother?

There are lots of crazy governmental things in the news (I’m looking at you cash for clunkers… or even Obama drinking Bud Light) that are definite fodder for a blog post. Actually I’ve stuck with my resolution to not follow politics too closely since the election… which is great and has contributed to a general lowering of my blood pressure.

Also, apparently a co-worker of the guy in the bubble photo reads my blog. Greetings!

Ok, I actually have nothing of importance to say, so I’ll just leave you with a nice photo of a flower from Napa, CA. Have a happy weekend!

Bubble boy

If there’s one thing I’m learning about kids, it’s that they love bubbles. Apparently the bigger the better. At various times in my life I’ve seen people pull out the washtub and dish soap with visions of grandeur… hoping for gargantuan bubbles, but with little success. I have to give props to my friend Rob who was the bubble master this weekend. It was just your typical kid’s birthday party until the bubbles came out… then it was kid’s birthday party EXTREME!

As a side note, it’s impossible to not get an adorable photograph when you’re shooting little kids and giant bubbles. It was difficult to choose just one!

Hansel and Gretel

Several years ago my family had a beautiful German shorthair puppy named Hansel. He grew into a… big puppy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dog with so much energy! My family loved him, but unfortunately, one day while in the yard he heard my dad coming up the mountain road that lead to our house. Somehow Hansel could always distinguish the sound of dad’s engine and he’d run out to welcome him. This day, for some reason, he took off through the woods between our house and the road and, because of the steep incline, couldn’t stop. It was certainly a sad day, especially for my dad. We still miss Hansel.

Several years later, my parents adopted a wire hair Jack Russel puppy. She was the runt of the litter. She probably could challenge Hansel for high energy… though her much smaller size made her enthusiastic welcome less obtrusive. In honor of Hansel, we called her Gretel.

Fun, fun, fun

Don’t worry, I still have the Camry.

I’m not a big “car person”, but I must admit I enjoyed hugging the road around corners and feeling the power of a 400HP V8 engine. Plus, it really is fun driving around in a cool car.

Of course my 99 Toyota is cool as well… and she runs like a dream.
